I'm actually heavily involved with Grannys having been in the club since 1992 and holding commitee positions so I pretty much know them inside out.

we use to be in the granada enthusiasts club.we also had a 2.8i  mk2 X reg while we had the 2 litre hatch.only went to one show unfortunately with our car before we went german and got an old merc estate. happy days though.

id love to get a mk1 coupe

but cant see that ever happening.

Although I've had the Mk2 all that time I also had a Mk1 three litre ghia that I was given. It had been sitting in a lock up 15 years. I did a 3 year resto on it and then won 'Best MK1' at the AGM for all the Granada Clubs on 2008. I sold it earlier this year. Too many cars and not enough time. Three of my mates locally have coupes, all very nice ones. They are not as rare as people think.

Any how you 'went German' before you think All MK2 and 3 Granadas were built in Cologne. As were all post '75 MK1's.  Pre '75 Mk1's except coupes were built in Dagenham. All coupes without exception were built in Germany.

yeah i know but Merc is "proper" German, when they were good cars , solid and reliable unlike the stuff they make today.cant remember the last time i saw a coupe on the road , certainly not in the last 2 or 3 years anyway.

think my classic days are over, not enough time to get in all the vanning i want to do as it is without chucking a classic into the mix as well 17

What you do is you tow your van with your classic as well as your Mondeo. Then you get to meet even more people on site who stop and talk about the car.

hi adrian, i think your wife has it right. its a lot cheaper to replace brakes than it is to change clutch/g/box. as an ex lorry driver the only time i changed down was going down hill. autos tend to use more fuel because transmission takes longer to respond to throttle oppenings.but if you have a light right foot you should be fine. ray.

when i did my motor engineering coarse CG.many moons ago the general idea was that an auto used 10% more fuel than a manual.i think modern advances in technology and better burning capabilities of the engine it will be about 7% to 8% now.unless its like mine a 3 ltr.also found on a strong windy day and a head wind on the motorway you can come all the way home in third gear with an auto box.you do not get this with a manual gearbox. a caravan is not exactly the right shape for saving fuel.

On the mpg subject, in our local freebie paper last night they had a road test of a Fiesta automati.

The  mpg around town was in the 30s-manual considerably higher than the manual version!

As they said you would have to want one a lot to pay the extra £££ for the auto and the higher fuel  bills!!!
