Its funny how 4 x4 s are not so evil in this weather! It is safe, strong and good in the snow, having mud/snow tyres as standard, ESP, and auto 4WD.
My wife works for the NHS (community nursing) and has to travel throughout parts of Shropshire. The Sorento has been excellent so far., so she is able to do her job!
We get 30-35 ish mpg at the moment, but the car is nearly new so has not loosened up fully.
The petrol model has a 3.5V 6 engine and probably does about 20mpg! Not surprisingly they are not overly popular here!

The tyres on ours are Goodyear Wrangler M+S. They look like road tyres but with a deeper tread. They probably are not winter tyres, have not looked too closely at the sidewall!
We previously had Fronteras (company cars), which came with the same tyres as standard.
All Terrain have a chunkier tread, I will consider Cooper or BF Goodrich AT when the Goodyears wear out.
Mud tyres have a very chunky tread but tend to be noisy on the road. Had both on the old Range Rover and Land Rover I used to own, at different times.
My sister lives in Ontario, where it is very cold! She has a separate set of wheels with winter tyres which are swapped onto the car in October and come off in about April.
