Ive got a Land rover discovery, its fairly cheap to run, isnt to heavy on diesel, brilliant tow car, very reliable, parts are cheap, insurance cheap, very comfortable, 7 seats.

Ive had a number of 4x4`s and the land rover is by far the best, it will tow anything and ive rescued other 4x4`s with it when they cant hack it.

Archies
That sounds interesting.
Are they comfortable or "heavy" to drive? I ask because I have a problem with my shoulder and neck (and lower back) which means that I don't do well on heavy steering or gears that require lots of force.

PS I wish I had a 4x4 now - it's difficult reversing out of my drive onto a slippy pitched lane!

They look great!
I wonder if they would get down my lane (6 foot 6 inches wide) - stone walls on either side.
Looks like I might scrape the wing mirrors a bit ;-)

If you want comfort and reliability, 7 seats, 30+mpg, width 1.875m, I suggest you check out the Toyota Landcruiser Colorado 3.0 D-4D AUTO. I am on my second Landcruiser and have enjoyed 5 years of troublefree motoring.

This Colorado is near to you.

Try a Landcruiser before you consider any other vehicle.

I have to say that I am amazed with the amount of responses and the mine of information you have all given me. It's great. I didn't realise there was so much choice.

We are rapidly becoming 4x4 enthusiasts with all your help. Usually I am left to do all the investigation by myself but as I keep on coming up with such great ideas from you all, hubby is getting enthusiastic about it.
He likes the sound of the Mitsu Pajero or the Toyota Landcruiser. I'm nervous about the lack of wiggle room down the lane (mirrors in or not).

Given that I will probably be driving it (I'm the tower of the family) then I'd like to think I will get the final say. I'll let you know and then you can slate me for making the wrong decision but whichever one it is, it will not have much problem towing my little 1985 ABI Debutante ;-)

Why not try the KIA Carens 7 seater diesel. Very good prices, usually low mileage around 2006 up to present. The 2006 has maximum towing weight of 1250kg but that is good enough to pull a Lunar Quasar. The later models are even better and still within your price range.

Have to agree with the Toyota Landcruiser Colorado , have used my mothers for the past few holidays whilst towing, fantastic vehicle, you don't even know you are towing. Great work horse as well, whist still being very comfy, they have had many 4x4's over the years and they think this one is the best. The colorado she has even seats 8 people.
