Hi
According to the Caravan Club my Skoda Octavia Estate TDi 2.0 2005 can tow up to 1300kg. However the Tech guide that came with the car says it can have a max. trailer weight of 1400kg, the caravan club say this isn't specifically referring to caravans.
Who's most accurate? Also it's an estate does that make a difference?
When car makers quote max tow weights they don't assume you are towing a caravan. The quoted weight is the max the car can sensibly tow taking into account power/torque/gradabilty. It is up to the driver to use their common sense as regarding the weight of what they actually tow taking into account side winds etc. Possibly CC is referring to their oft quoted 85% rule or they could have made an error. Regarding towing weights, go with what is in your cars' handbook, not what you read on t'internet
what ever skoda have said will be right, if thats what your handbook has said your estate can take thats the limit, most of the clubs work with the 85% rule in mind.

The Skoda Octavia tdi estate may well be able to tow 1.4 tons but is far to light as the kerbweight is only around 1422kg if my memory serves me correct if you are looking for a van at that MPTLM you need a heavier car or opt for a lighter van
