PS.. Even if the 1575 is the max laden weight,Your towing so close to the 100% limit i would say it is essential you take your car and caravan to a weighbridge.
You might be shocked as the results.

A strong gust of wind in the wrong place and you will be wishing your car was heavier or caravan was lighter.

Hard to control a caravan that weighs as much as the car and probably bigger with more leverage.

You read the posts where people tow the manufacturers max limit which is sometimes way over the cars kerbweight. They always say it tows really well. Changing down to 3rd or even 2nd gear on a steep motorway incline is not what i call a good towcar.

Thanks. That's very useful. We'll definately look for a heavier car (probably a Galaxy)

I dont think any model of Galaxy will tow that weight at 85%.  You need to go much bigger.

Agree with LDKO about the rollovers being the driver, not the vehicle.  I think it's usually risk compensation.  People who havenever had a 4 x 4 suddecly think they can do what they like and go anywhere.  It takes a while to learn the truth, although I have been using large 4 x 4s for many years now.

I would never go backto towing with an ordinary car.

Jim

Thanks Jim.

I popped the details into whattowcar.com, and the galaxy came out at 87%, which I assume is ok?

I didn't think the Galaxy was that heavy, but there are lots of models, so if you are sure of your figures, I wouldn't worry at all at 87%.

That should be fine.

It was a wise move to consider a change.  It really wouldn't work with the combination you had.  *5% is only a guide, but best to stay near it if you can.

Jim
