You can tow providing that the TT has a maximum weight ( plated on the TT ) which is less than the unladen mass of the car ( more difficult to find but usually there is a figure on your V5 registration document ), also the sum of the max weight of the TT plus the max wieght of the car ( plated on the car ) must be less than 3500kg. In addition you must make sure the actual train weight plus the actual weight of the TT is less than the max train weight plated on the car.

That is what the law says but you might also consider that for a stable and relaxing tow you should arrange that the actual weight of the TT  has a maximum of somewhere about 85% slightly more is acceptable ( even up to 100% with experience ) but less is usually better.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

They do make it very complicated I am afraid!

Basically yes you can if the car and trailer weigh less than 3.5tonnes. If its a normal car and trailer tent/folder it is more than likely it will be less.

Watch the weights - many trailer tents don't have brakes and the max tow weight for cars is usually given for a braked trailer, some manufacturers also give the unbraked in their brochures and handbooks, but many don't and you have to ask them. The unbraked max tow weight is usually a lot less than the braked and depending on the car can be as low as 350 Kgs..

When you have an idea of what tt/folder you want, post again on here with your car details and I guarantee someone will be able to find the weights and work it all out for you.
