We have the estate version, a 54 plate and it is great for towing, our last car was a Peugeot 406 estate and my husband who does all the towing says the renault is much better,
I have an "04" laguna 1.9dci Hatch, and as a towing vehicle,it ticks all the boxes! Only problem,is the weight of the vehicle(1350kgs),so keep an eye on the weight of your caravan(my van weighs 1200kg),and tows fine! Sensible loading and speed!!!.
used to tow with an 04 estate, not a bad towcar, watch the turbos for going around 60-70k miles, only problem is that is is french and therefore bits fall off before they should! however compared to the previous car which was a 2001 passat it was much better and more reliable! and more so than the next car a v50 volvo which spent more time in the garage than out when the mileage got higher.
We have had one of these estate cars six speed gearbox and it returned 32 miles per gallon towing a 4 berth van pleanty of power and without the van it give 50 per gal

We've just bought a 406 Estate 2ltr 110hp HDI. to tow our 850kg Marauder. Did hubby notice any quirks towing with your 406 ? Cheers
Juat asked him about this and he said not really, there wasnt much to choose between them. He does like the cruise control on the Laguna. We towed an Avante 482, ours was a 51 plate but it only 1.9HDI and 90hp. We only bought the Laguna because we had an accident and the Peugeot was written off. We had a really high mileage on ours but it still towed well. Nothing in particular about the Laguna but he always says he prefers towing with it. Hope you enjoy yours, I liked it and it was my car and drove it most of the time, towing was for him, not me!!
We've got an '07 plate 2.2dci estate and are looking into buying our first van. The kerbweight of the car is 1530kgs meaning we should be able to tow up to around 1300 kgs on the old 85% guide. Looking at a Bailey Ranger 540/6 which comes in with an MTPLM of 1350 kgs which would appear to be OK. However, in the handbook it says the max permissible towing weight braked is 1500 kgs driver only and 1150 kgs in all other cases. Is this to be adhered to or should I really only be worried about keeping the outfit under max train weight?
Ta!
