Hiya

Right so got the Caravan, now on to the practicalities and most importantly a towbar! (Not gonna get very far without one right )

So spent all weekend ringing round and getting varing different prices and advice and cant believe how much prices differ with one guy wanting £185 (sounded to good to be true) to Audi who wanted £1150

Finally the best offer seems to be £297. This is for a Westfalia bar with twin electrics. Does this seem like a good price and is it a decent make of bar. All new to this so any adice greatly recieved.

Oh and we're in the Nottingham area if anyone can reccommend a good fitter.

I had a towsure bar with electrics fitted to my 2002 passat ( virtual audi) for about £220.

I don't think the make of towbar makes a lot if difference as long as it's kitemarked eu approved. They all fit the preprepared manufacturers fittings. The last foot thats visible is really down to you as to what it looks like.

If there is one available that does not involve bumper cutting it would improve resale value when you dispose of the car.

Have since phoned the audi dealer in Derby who I know dont do towbar fitting and asked who they use they gave me a couple of numbers of the people they send their cars to and the car is now booked in for next friday and its gonna cost £260 for a Witter bar with twin electrics.

Cant wait just got to find somewhere relativley close to home for the first trip as we've never towed before and more than a little nervous about the prospect!!

£260 is a fair price and witters are good.

Don't be worried about the first trip, just take it easy until the confidence builds (which usually happens when you get stuck down a single track lane!!) you will soon be trecking the UK and beyond!

I have also had good dealings with towequipe, and the witter towbars which they supply.  I would also recommend having a vehicle specific wiring loom - saves splicing.

Towsure fitted a towbar to another car and I was happy with their job/service, but I fitted the towsure one myself (with the help of my old man) - the wiring loom was oh so simple.

If you're not comfortable drilling holes in your boot, getting under your car or removing trim panels - then best bet is get someone else to do it.  The prices you have seem OK to me.
