Can anyone recommend breakdown cover which covers a car aswell as a caravan for Europe.

We are going to France for 2 weeks in the summer and will be towing a new Pegasus 546 (7.12cm long and 2.28cm wide)

Unfortunately all the big name companies won't cover as my caravan is either to long or to wide.

I am looking for any companies others can recommend. I know the Caravan Club covers but they are very expensive.

I have found one company with no restrictions called IC Breakdown. Has anyone used this company whilst in the UK or Europe.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Kevin

While Red Pennant may be expensive there level of cover is the best and unlike others you will not be left in the lurch when it comes to the crunch .
You only get what you pay for with in insurance if it's cheap your cover will be c..p and there will be something in the small print that will leave you stranded when you don't need it .
If you can afford a new Pegasus you can't afford to have a poor level of insurance cover for a European trip so get the best and have a piece of mind .

As millermicm says above, seems to be a little known fact that Europassist is available in the UK on an annual sub and not just for when you go across the channel.

Don't know why you think the others will leave you in the lurch. Europ assistance recovered us from Barcelona and service was 1st class

Did I mention Europe Assist ? No
The point I am trying to make is that some of these cheaper insurance policy's are not worth the paper there written on . And when it comes to cover you only get what you pay for .

We have not bought our insurance yet so thought I would look at the Europ assistance. Trying to get a quick quote I found that I need to ring if my trip is over 91 days, and if anyone is over 65 they seem to be excluded from personal cover, so difficult to compare prices easily.

If you are towing a caravan on the continent you need breakdown cover that not only will recover you if car is brokendown/accident damaged but will also recover if it is caravan that is brokendown(ie failed wheel bearing)/accident damaged, but car is ok.

While some(but not all)breakdown cover will recover car/caravan it will only do so in event of car breakdown/accident, ie cover provided does not cover all eventualities.

When shopping around for breakdown cover it is often difficult to establish exactly what is covered as websites often don't make it clear & speaking on the phone to anybody who's wage relies on a sale is probabley not going to clarify the matter too much.

I've read the t&c's on IC website & it does not make clear that it will attend caravan only breakdown/accident damage, so I would speak to them first to ensure it does.

Well as you did not say "some other  cheaper" I read your earlier post to imply that everything else other than red pennant would leave you in the lurch!

Not again, as soon as one such thread drops to page 2, someone starts a new one. Any chance of one of them being made a sticky?

For the record, Caravan Clubs Red Pennant for Europe, Mayday for the UK.

C+CC cover the caravan through the RAC, but the RAC are not as good as Greenflag who underwrite the CC's altenatives. Mayday and Red Pennant are also better value and give a preferential service over the standard Greenflag members, including a discounted price and fewer restrictions. There is even a dedicated Mayday help line so that we do not need to wait in line with all the "ordinary" people

Join the CSMA about £15, then take their breakdown at members rate (60% reduction in price) They cover caravans upto 8 metres and they will recover your van even if your car is ok

agreed CSMA (Britannia rescue)offer a good service for UK & EU at a low Annual cost BUT I have a letter stating they will not recover the car or the van in the case of a road accident causing the car to be uneconomical to repair as the recovery of the car is / should be covered by the car insurers ,neither will it recover from a campsite

If you are towing a caravan in the EU use a recovery service that is directed at caravanners not a car recovery service that as a by product says it will recover the van as I have found there are to many variables Ie. to long/heavy , will not attend unless the car is the problem, will not deal with a fault on the van making it untowable, will not recover the caravan unless the car also being recovered due to a breakdown, will only recove to the nearest garage ect ect
