I purchased a 2005 2lt HDI C5 last year and have towed with it several times. I THINK THE CAR IS EXCELLENT FOR TOWING. The best I have had so far in 20 years of caravanning. My present van weighs 1240 klgs no problem.
I have had two C5s a 2001 2.2 HDI saloon and a 2004 2.016v HDI estate both have been superb tow cars and I have enjoyed many miles of comfortable trouble free motoring. I kept the 2.2 for two years and sold it for £300 less than I paid which I thought wasn't bad. I still have the 2.0 estate and would only change it for another.
I am a bit of a Citroen fan but I understand there are those who wouldn't be seen dead in one. Each to their own I suppose.
I hope have you better luck than me i picked a c5 2lt hdi 110 hp up on friday drove it home 13 miles and it went into limp mode only go up to 2000 revs dealers had it 2 days now still no joy rang him to today he asked are you sure you put diesel in it and not petrol. (twat)
sorry to hear this Guzgog particularly after me encouraging you, I can be pretty sure this is down to a dodgy maf, there appears to be a design fault in the inlet tract which allows condensation to form on the hot wire and causing it to rust...
it doesn't always show up when the codes are read either, mine was running okay when warm but a bit of a dog when it was cold, £35 for a maf from ebay and it's right as rain :)
Thanks for the info Angus the dealer says the fault code indicates faulty fuel pressure sensor so they replaced it but still no joy then he said there's to much pressure going to the injectors and the part he needs will take a couple of days to arrive. i'll keep you posted on the out come. cheers Stan
Hi, guzgog, I had the same problem on my omega (going into limp mode) it turned out to be the throttle switch. I won't tell you the cost it will give you nightmares, but it might sort out the fault.

can you remember the seller id as i am interested in replacing mine (2001 c5 2.2 hdi), and £35 seems a good price. is it an easy job to replace?
thanks,
simon.
------------- just cos you got the power, that don`t mean you got the right...
OK the dealer rang and said my car is repaired and ready to collect when i asked him what the problem was he said he had to reprogram the fuel pressure switch live data what ever that means, i think what he ment was i disconected battery and left it a while and the compuer reprograms its self. any way drove car home some 15 miles and all seams ok well fingers crossed. cheers Stan
