My friend wants to borrow my caravan just wonder if he's car will pull it? He's got peugoet 207 1.4 hdi looking at the weights it shud tow 900kg the caravan weighs 650kg unladen 900kg laden wot do people think?

Hope your van insurance covers someone else towing it,and does your friend know he is only covered third party while towing

His car will pull your caravan no probs. His car insurance even if fully comp. will only cover you caravan for third party risks. If you have your caravan insured make sure it covers your friend towing it. Not a legal requirement tho.

Will check insurance I just thought the size of the 207 wud be an issue bein quite small I tow it with a vectra so you don't even kno it's in the back

I looked at a Meteorite a few years back, I`m supprised that its max weight is only 900kg, I`m not saying its not, I just thought it would be heavier when I saw the size of it so did not buy it.

The weight is correct, they were designed and built to be towed by a small car. If you ever come across a Meteor that will surprise you even more as it is a much bigger van but weighs in only about 25kg heavier.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Wow the 207 HDI has 67bhp. over 14 seconds to 60. Dread to think what thats like with a 900kg caravan in tow.

All legal though. Avoid hills, stopping and even slight inclines.

Mind you, top speed is only 100mph..ish so might be fairly low geared, Which will help.

Thanks for the replys my mate wants to try it before he gets his own caravan I told him a freedom wud suit wot he needs with his low towing weight

67bhp is positively formula 1 performance compared with my 1.4 diesel metro towing 650kg with 50bhp. Got along nicely at 55mph.

Power to weight your metro had more power, Shockingly. LOL

The 207 weighs almost 400kg more than the metro and the caravan is 250kg heavier if loaded to max.
The 207 does have almost double the torque of the old metro though.

Metro 35bhp per ton with 650kg trailer
207 31bhp per ton with a 900kg trailer

I have a 77bhp 1.4 petrol Grande Punto pulling a 1000kg max weight van (weighs about 900kg loaded), mine pulls it no problems sits quite nice at 50-55mph on motorway, have to drop it into 3rd/4th depending on the incline of hill, takes about 20 seconds from 0-60 towing.
