New to all this, been camping and the family spend the whole time wishing we had a caravan, so I need a 4berth jobby what can I get with my current car can tow for say 4k?

Also I live in Southampton is there anywhere that I could hire something for the weekend before parting with my hard cash?

Depends which model you have and when you passed your driving test.

Without knowing those details a caravan with a GROSS weight of 1200kg is about your limit.

kerb weight is about 1365 so can only safely tow 85% of that but not sure if the 3door is lighter than the 5door hatchback so max weight of caravan fully loaded about 1160kg but have to check ur kerbweight of ur model hope this helps

your car is 1351kg kerbweight so the 85 % rule says 1148kg max loaded caravan but checked out whattowcar.com and the baileys ranger 470/4 is bout 86% of ur kerbweight so should be ok just make sure when looking at caravans to make sure they dont go too much above 1160kg when fully loaded good luck and hope u find a nice dry van .
