Does anyone tow with one of these?

If so, what is it like? I am looking at one. My 'van weighs in at 1450 ish kg max.

Is the fuel consumption truly horrendous??

Any advice appreciated

As no-one else has replied, I'll throw in my tuppence worth as a diesel SF owner (2005 model, old-shape, also towing 1500kg)...

Fuel consumption; depends on your definition of horrendous but I would have thought 'yes' would be the answer...my diesel averages about 24mpg when towing (at best I get 30mpg towing at 60mph on a flat motorway but down to 18mpg on a steep hill), so I would imagine the petrol version will be worse than that (20mpg at best, I would guess, probably less).

However, in all other respects, the SF is a good car and tows well. And you have to take account of the low purchase cost compared to most of the competition.

BUT, I would personally always go for a diesel if towing - not just the mpg but also the better torque figures. My SF is dog-slow when towing but I've pulled away on a steep slope with no drama and reversed the van up a hill (bloody sat-nav!) with no problems...

Thanks Nelmo

The Torque on the 2.7 petrol is up slightly on the Tucson I am currently towing with, but with an extra 55 bhp. I am hoping to see a difference. I am expecting 25 mpg normal and around 20 towing

We tow with one of these. Bailey Ranger GT60 500-5. The only problem we have IS the fuel consumption. We get around 20mpg towing and 25ish solo. The comfort is great, easy to drive but would like a better return on mpg.

Thanks Bailey Bear. I note the max weight is 1263KG for your 'van. Do you think it would cope OK with a 1450 kg van?

The mtplm is 1316Kg

I would say that it would cope with a van of 1450Kg.

My father inlaw has a Tuscon Xenith diesel and he pulls a Swift Fairway (dealer model) which is heavier than our  van without problems. His fuel consumption is far better, gets 35ish towing. Might be worth a look if you can find one.

i have the santa f'e 2.7 V6 auto 2004 petrol and love it,do not check now as i got fed up doing it but was getting a max of 19 to the gallon when towing.this was outweighed by the towing power of the V6 engine.ours is an MTPLM of 1272 kgs and it pulls it with ease.plus side is the towbar weight is 92 kgs on the auto box.
