Hi all, have just booked in at Incartec to get the tow bar fitted next Monday.  The guy quoted me £350, but said he will do it for £330 for cash.  Money talks and all that lol.  Anyway, that was the cheapest I could get in our area for a detachable bar.  Seems like an awful lot of money still.  Oh well, it s a necessity now.

So then I'll be able to go pick up my trailer from my dad's!  Scary!  Any tips on towing for me?  The trailer is only small so Im sure i'll be ok going forward, its the reversing im scared about!  Was at Lightwater Valley a couple of weeks ago and saw someone making a right pig's ear of reversing a trailer down a hill.  Was horrified at the thought that it could have been me! LOL

Price doesn't seem too bad to me, but I suppose you aren't having twin electrics and the relays that a caravan installation would have - so maybe about £20 9ver the odds, I paid about that price for my detachable and 13pin socket with all necessary relays.

If you have the job done for cash, will you still have some sort of receipt in case of any warranty issues with the installation?? For the sake of £20 it may be worh thnking about & to be honest, saving £20 on a £350 job for cash wouldn't be enough of a saving for me to pay anyone cash. He's on a winner there IMO.

Make sure you have a valid reg plate ready for when you pick the trailer up. Check your lights etc before you pull off. Don't worry about reversing (downhill or not) you may never have to, if you do unhitching may be easier. Remember it's there and leave more space when you pull out.

If its only a small trailer you may not be able to see it from the drivers seat. this makes it virtually impossible to reverse. If it is small its usually a lot easier just to unhitch and walk it.

If you have a hatchback putting the hatch up may give you a view (if you have not got it stuffed full of camping gear)

It is easy to forget you are towing when you only have a small trailer! Watch your speed. It is easy to think you can go faster but stick to the speed limits, which means sitting on 60 on the motorway. Just relax and enjoy the slower pace
