hi mate.

i was praising my 2.2 c5 hdi a few weeks ago and have had nothing but grief since!

yeah, the car tows great, good fuel economy, plenty of power, and very comfortable.......when it wants to.

it will (RANDOMLY) completely lose power (foot off, on, off, then back on accellerator cures this!), displays "engine immobiliser fault" and wont start (a few lock and unlock of the doors cures this!). radio comes on when it wants to, windows go up and down when they want to, trafficmaster comes to life when it wants to, suspension goes up and down when it wants to, air recirculation comes on when it wants to, diesel "disappears" on the gauge then reappears a few days later, sometimes i even get 999 mpg............ i could go on.

i took the car to citroen and paid £42.95 for a diagnostic check, and guess what....no fault codes showed up. so all perfectly normal then!

sorry im not really answering your original question (the foot off, on, off, then on may work), but if anyone has any solutions please send them to:-  Citroen, France, CR4P

just cos you got the power, that don`t mean you got the right...

Husband spent a lot of time on various C5 forums while we had ours. Google Citroen C5 problems/forum, lots of people out there with experience of C5 'quirks'.

scarr1 we had same sort of problems with ours, crunch came on our very first caravanning weekend away. Everything fine until the journey home & the passenger window opened on it's own & I had trouble closing it. C5 had a tantrum with all sorts of alarms, lights flashing & messages about ECU failures, anti pollution failures etc.

Not much fun when your towing on your own at 60mph on a motorway!

Needless to say husband had sold C5 within a week & bought a Jaguar estate.

Good Luck brianbrianyi

My C5 started to go wrong (03 plate). I spent loads on it and wished I hadn't. Whgen they start to go they don't do it by half.

Citreon Mechanic said that once you start getting problems they start to moive around from one area to another. My advice, get shot.

I got an X type estate, Lovely car to drive but I found it an awful tow car, although I was on 87%

Brian, suspect you're problem may be down to a failing airflow meter, a common C5 problem,

random electrical problems? suggest you get the battery and alternator checked, if the voltage in the electrical system starts to drop it can cause all sort of random crap which makes no sense and as just about everything in the C5 is computer controlled voltage drops can make for entertaining results ;)

French electrics have always given problems, and always will.  Seems to be one of the things they just can't get right.

It should be totally reliable. The current C5 bears no resemblance to the older model whatsoever. The problems as described by the op & others can happen to any car 7-8 yrs old. The op supplies no info on age/mileage/service history of car.

My experiece of Citroens is that proivided they are main dealer serviced they give no trouble. I drive in France a fair bit so I drive a Citroen because I will never be far from service there should I hit trouble, but my theory is untested as yet.

I take all the negative twoddle about citroens with a pinch of salt . They are very popular with taxi operators and normally get sold on after 200,000 to 300,000 miles of very hard use. The Reliability Index puts Citroen as one of the top ten most reliable makes of car.  Anyone who finds that hard to believe can look for themselves.

Hear Hear! samfan :)

mate of mine leases out C5's as taxi's, current low mileage one has 150k, the high miler 350k...

16v diesels have the most poke but the 8v ones are mechanically the strongest :) :)
