Hi all.

Just put a deposit down on a 54' Galaxy. It has rear parking sensors on. Now, I've fitted a few towbars before, but not come up against parking sensors before. Has anyone got any experience on how to get around it ? Is it possible to fit a simple switch to dissable them ?

I have a galaxy, and it has a detachable bar so no problem, A lot of people have had normal bars fitted with no problems, It would seem to be the bumper plates/ electric sockets that cause the problems. My advice would be to fit a removable bar personally. When you are towing or reversing with the van, it will not be a problem because there is a parking sensor override button on the dash.

Check if the car has a specific wiring kit to deactivate rear sensors once electrics are connected for towing. Depending on manufacturer the wiring kits also give other benefits like turning off rear car fog lights and systems which use the cars electronics to help control snakes or caravan movement. It will only take a phonecall to the dealer with your chassis number and/or registration details. You can press the dash button to just switch the sensors off, but unless you reverse in one movement (rarely the case) they will just keep coming back on which is very annoying.

If there is a kit it will not be an expensive addition to the job and will just be an inline  plug in affair. My wifes BMW (X3) had one and iirc it was about £75. That deactivated parking sensors, fog light and also ensured the cars TSC (trailer Stability Control) system was available when the van is being towed.
