Just put a deposit down on a 54' Galaxy. It has rear parking sensors on. Now, I've fitted a few towbars before, but not come up against parking sensors before. Has anyone got any experience on how to get around it ? Is it possible to fit a simple switch to dissable them ?
i had a pug 807 with sensors on and every towbar company i phoned all done the sharp intake of breath when i said i had sensors but i never had one in the middle so it was no prob so i fitted a fixed tow bar so only go for a detachable if you have a sensor that will sit right behind it or take the sensor bulb out will save paying that extra 100 quid or so
Hi. We have a xsara picasso with factory fitted sensors. We have a flange type towbar with alko ball and a plastic ball cover. The only problem we have had is when the towball cover has been slightly dislodged or the cover has expanded due to heat on sunny days. It was fitted by a local independent company.
I've found fitting companies won't fit a fixed bar if you have sensors, so I have had detachables (which TBH are hardly ever detached!), I've not had a problem with the sensors with the ball on.
I have a galaxy, and it has a detachable bar so no problem, A lot of people have had normal bars fitted with no problems, It would seem to be the bumper plates/ electric sockets that cause the problems. My advice would be to fit a removable bar personally. When you are towing or reversing with the van, it will not be a problem because there is a parking sensor override button on the dash.
Thanks John. Thats exactly what our local fitter said. Bar is on order already so cant change, he also said a swan neck might be ok. Will soon find out.
Mmmm, takisawa, hope your problem has been solved... Sorry for I probably cant help you with this. I had never met this kind of questions, and if there is any control box or any transmitter can solve this kind of problem? Wish to know other good idea. There is no interference of my Rear Parking Sensor.
Check if the car has a specific wiring kit to deactivate rear sensors once electrics are connected for towing. Depending on manufacturer the wiring kits also give other benefits like turning off rear car fog lights and systems which use the cars electronics to help control snakes or caravan movement. It will only take a phonecall to the dealer with your chassis number and/or registration details. You can press the dash button to just switch the sensors off, but unless you reverse in one movement (rarely the case) they will just keep coming back on which is very annoying.
If there is a kit it will not be an expensive addition to the job and will just be an inline plug in affair. My wifes BMW (X3) had one and iirc it was about £75. That deactivated parking sensors, fog light and also ensured the cars TSC (trailer Stability Control) system was available when the van is being towed.
