"No......used Kia'Sornto's aren't that cheap because popularity and a good low mileage one is hard to find without travelling miles from home. You never see them in garages like a lot of other makes and if you do the prices are sky high.
There are a few very high mileage in available car .com and car supermarket."

Hehe so that answers my question Janx!! So they are (were - they are out of production now :-( ) cheap to buy new, but relatively expensive used. So all the reviews i have read about these cars being hugely undesirable on the second hand market can be ignored - in real life they are hard to find if you want a good used one. Well, what about its little brother, the Sportage? More soft roader than off roader but a fine motor car at a sensible price. I drove one for 14000 miles and it was great. But it is a little limited in max tow weight (1600kg from memory), and the nose weight was a max of about 80kg (ish). Was the very reason i changed mine to a sorento. But new model now out so i recon the 'old' one must be selling for a song now! Worth a thought if your van is no heavier than 1600kg. My one towed fine but the boot was a little small for our family of 4 and the 6 speed 'box had to be worked to take hills at reasonable speed. Other than that it was a cool towcar!

I've lauded the Mondeo since we bought one to tow our 1500kg van last year. It is a fab tow car but I wouldnt tow our van at 1500kg van with one. Kept it to 1400kg max. Have a Galaxy now & that is far better, but the reliability issues worry me, & real world economy is not much better than a Sorrento. If it were up to me we'd have a Sorrento, but Wife wasnt keen. They just look the right tool for the job. Chap at work has a Terrano. Reckons its superb tow-car. If had your £2k budget thats what I'd be buying.

You can pick up Jeeps quite cheaply, seen Cherokee diesels occasionally in local paper. 2.5 td should tow well.

4.0 litre petrols are great (hired one in USA) and not too bad on fuel, 20mpg  in USA on their long straight roads at 70mph!

Cheaper fuel of course-but towing could be thirsty!!

Parts not as cheap or as easy to come buy as they are for Landies in UK obviously.

Having had 2(old) Landies, I can confirm parts are plentiful and not too expensive and old ones easy to maintain.Still love them but new ones are soooo pricey!
