Anyone had problems with v70 alarm systems? Also do you need an oil cooler for a v70 with geartronic gearbox?

They all ready have a oil cooler so theres no problem there. What i would suggest is to have the gearbox oil changed. The oil for them is dexron 3 fully synthetic. Its about £10 litre. The gearbox holds about 7.2 litres but you can only get 4.5 to 5 litres out of them when draining them. I drained & refilled my box 3 times to get the oil looking clean. I did 1 drain & refill then left it for a month to clean all the crap out of the box. Then did another oil change & another 2 weeks after that. I did mine because the gear changes were getting ruff. but now you would be hard pushed to feel the changes now. Volvo say there a sealed for life box & the oil never needs changing. & its not down as a serviced part. This is bull sh*t & if you tow or drive it hard then change the oil every 50000 miles. It may cost you £140 in oil. But a new gearbox would run into £3000+. Just remember not to over fill it.

Same as the Omega auto box then.

Omega experts reckon it's best to change at around 80k, Vx say sealed for life.

Do you have to take the sump off the Volvo box, or is there a drain plug. Also do you have to change a filter.

Just curious as I am interested in buying a Volvo V70.

Does thwe Volvo have a power sounder unit, may need replacing if the alarm is going off, is it?

Mick

I always run it in manual mode when towing as it will go into direct drive in 3rd 4th & 5th. direct drive comes in at 30mph in 3rd / 40mph in 4th & 56mph in 5th. doing this will stop the oil from getting hot.

It as a drain plug. I have been told there is a filter in the box but the sump on the box as to come off to get to it. My car as 185.000 miles & the box is smooth as hell so i would just do the drain & fill. When i dropped the oil the first time it was dark brown. i filled it up & after a mouth i dropped it again & it was black. This is because the new oil as cleaning agents & the old oil had lost all its cleaning power & was just sh*tting the box up. I horp this will have help you. ask away if you need more answers.

If your alarm is going off intermitantly for no reason and is quiter than it should be then it will be the siren. It contains a small back up battery with over time fails and corrodes and causes this problem. It's fairly common,i replaced mine 4 months ago. If this sounds like your problem then it's a half hour job to replace the siren. If your interested i can put you in contact with a volvo dealer who offers top discounts on genuine parts.
