Hi there, towbar was fitted today, picking up trailer tomorrow (maypole 712)
I have never towed before, and was thinking.
Am I correct in thinking that the trailer isn't secure, I mean, isn't it worrying if on the way to your destination you want to stop for a bite to eat, you have all your gear in the trailer.. somebody could easily unhook and steel it??
What do you normally do?
And do you ever have problems parking at motorway services etc..
Any information related to this type of thing would be appreciated.
------------- Laughing is good exercise.
Its like jogging on the inside!!!
If you have a standard towbar fitted, the trailer can be removed with a hitchlock still on, they simply unbolt the towball from the towbar.
If you want to stop for a bite to eat, secure the trailer with a hitch lock, or better still a wheel clamp, and then sit somewhere where you can see your trailer whilst eating.
...and some service stations on the motorways do have extra long parking bays for cars with caravans. Just follow the caravan sign. Failing that always try the lorry park.

Also, is there a little keyhole shaped hole on the handle near the release 'trigger'? If so, there is a little brass locking pin which costs about £6 that goes in there. Probably the least effective, but better than nothing. Enquire at any good motor accessory shop or caravan shop for this.
