If it is a 2010 it will be the new Canbus system maybe why your having trouble a Hyundi dealer needs to sort this as he may need to tell the car that it is fitted
Had mine fitted by the dealer so no issues but a friend had his done post delivery by towcraft in rowley regis, bham with no issues as far as I am aware.
Thanks for the replies, we have been waiting several weeks now for the electrics, the towbar is dealer fitted but the electrics have not been supplied yet. We could have had something done (not sure what) but it would have affected the warranty so still patiently waiting, just wondered if anyone else was having the same problem, as the electrics have changed for the 2010 model
I guess the dealer is waiting for stocks of dedicated loom for your car. If you wanted to have electrics fitted by an outside company it would have to be main dealer approved or you would, as you say, have warranty issues. Presumabley for lastest models, Hyundai do not permit fitting of the much cheaper bypass relay electrics.
You wont void the warranty getting someone else to fit a towbar, The towbar fitted by dealers are usually a westfalia or witter, Both well known brands fitted by anyone.
Your dealer may even source the kit from the same supplier.
Some towbars with dedicated wiring will require a trip to the dealer to plug into the computer, Disable reverse sensors when towing and the fog light, And enable the towing stability mode if your car has one.
To clarify...if the towbar/electrics are fitted by a towbar fitter not approved by main dealer, any electrical issues caused by the the towbar electrics that cannot be sorted by towbar company would only be fixed by main dealer at customer expense, not under vehicle warranty.
If non approved towbar fitter will warranty his work & you trust him then fair do's, otherwise wait for correct loom from main dealer.
Thanks James ...... that has really made my day, they said they should arrive in the UK today and be with the dealer tomorrow, so all being well we should be able to get away at last this weekend!!
It's not a huge task for an electronic engineer to design an interface that will plug into the car's wiring loom and the components are as cheap as chips.
Maybe hanging around outside your nearest high school and approaching a nerdy kid could get a result... Then again it could get your name on the register!
Well good news at last ...... we got the car back at the weekend complete with manufacturers towbar fitted, the good news is that Hyundai contacted the dealer and refunded the cost of the towbar and the fitting, they have also paid for the first years service, now thats customer service for you, still waiting to hear from the dealership on why I had to contact Hyundai direct to get things moving, will let you all know if I get any joy LOL
