With that engine you need to be looking at the lighter side of things, or possibly a folding camper. When towing a lot of the resistance comes from the sheer bulk of the caravan, not just its weight.
http://www.whattowcar.com/ will give you an idea of what is possible. Err on the side of the lighter the better. It's no fun struggling at the upper limit.
Difficult to suggest specific makes/models as they are all bacically competent and differ in layout and facilities.
Suggest having a look st some to establish your personal needs and wants.
However, in principle, I would respectfully suggest taking it slowly, look at simple/lighter ones (say sub 1000kg), be discriminating and initially get a good second hand one without spending megabucks as I'm sure, as you find out what you personally like and dislike, your tastes will change.
You need to look in your car handbook, weights section & it will state, max tow weight, 1300kg, I think for your model, but you don't want to be towing a caravan of that weight tho.
I would say for that car stick to max(loaded)weight of about 1100kg, so you want to be looking at low spec caravan that is light for its size. I suppose with your budget you will be looking at mid-late 90s caravans off ebay or private sale.
Hi . We tow with a 57 xsara picasso 1.6 hdi vtx. Our caravan is an Avondale dart 510-5. Whilst nearing the weight limits the car tows very well. Never had any real cause for concern.Returns low 30s mpg towing. Very pleased with it. Remember whatever you buy to load it properly.
Thanks for the advice, things are lokg up, my wife says we can upgrade car as long as we escape the drudgery of inner city life in sunny Coventry and demands of family! Thanks again
