"allow for the weight of the van from the 2.5t figure"?
Empty van + people + luggage + caravan = 3500kg MAX..
Dont forget its usually heavier on the way home. Or is that just us?
Extra sand in all the nooks & crannies, All those must have bargains and extra clothes you needed because your too lazy to wash anything by hand or waste time at the washers.

Allow for the weight of the empty van from the 2.5t figure and that tells you the weight of the people plus luggage you can put in it,if you wish to load it to the maximum.(this is called payload)As I said if you choose to load to the maximum for the van then this has to come off the train weight to give you your towing weight.Loading the van lighter, increases the tow weight allowance.(as long as you stay within the tow limit for the vehicle)
Not sure which bit of that is backwards? You agree with me
Empty van + people + luggage(whether in van or caravan) + caravan = 3.5 ton max.
A further example.
My Discovery has a 2880kg gross weight limit and a maximum tow limit of 3500kg.Add these together and you get a Train weight of 6380kg. Empty Discovery weighs 2202kg (I know this as it regularly goes over a weighbridge)so I can carry luggage and passengers up to a weight of 678kg.And still tow a load of 3500kg.If I had coupled brakes my tow limit would increase to 4000kg so I could then put 500kg of my luggage in the trailer and 178kg in the Discovery and still be within my limits.
thanks for the help every1 now il start looking to get my first caravan but i think il get a small light 1 to start with and see how we go on if we like it then il get a better van thanks
Small is not always light. If it's your first caravan, I assume you are looking for a used one. Vans from the early to mid 1990s are a lot lighter than the newer ones.
