This new car from Hyundai looks value for money.. 2L Deisel 130 BHP £16.5K new lots less than a VW model. Also i think you get 5 year warrenty

Has anybody got any comments or has towed with one yet?

Is the engine as good as a VW engine?

If you go to hyundai's web site you can compare the cars and yes it does come a Free 5 year unlimted warranty.

http://www.hyundai.co.uk/newCars/ix35/

http://www.hyundai.co.uk/newCars/cas/

Also i Think the caravan club april Mag voted it the best tow car in its class not sure though as it only came out in March.

The engine i think is the old Santa FE engine so it would be better.

According to the press releases, all the engines on the ix35 are a new design. They do not use the old Santa Fe engine.

Have you looked at the new Mitsubishi asx? At long last Mitsu have realised that people no longer want gas guzzlers. The asx does 50mpg for the 4x4 version, but only has a 1400kg towing limit.

The new Kia Sportage is out soon -if not already, basically a similar car to the Hyundai and has 7 year warranty.

Had a look at both. Basically very similar cars, made in the same factory. More variety in specs in the ix35 at the moment, the Sportage has only 1 spec. Prices very similar.

Hyundai have 5 year unlimited mileage warranty
Kia have 7 years 100,000 mile warranty, so one takes ones pick here.

Strangely the ix35 has a better fuel consumption than the Sportage, though they have the same engine and transmission, though there are some differences in the fluid transmission.

That looks like a really promising car but 2 issues:

1. No auto available (yet - probably a year or 2 down the line).

2. Towing limit is 2000kg but only a kerbweight of 1500kg?  I know that sometimes the max tow weight is more than the kerbweight but I thought that was only for some larger commercial vehicles? Would you want to tow at 133% ratio?

Funny how things come around. Was in the garage yesterday for them to sort out an engine management fault on my 4 year old Hyundai Tucson. Got a free loan car for 2 days without asking, and car sorted for free, of course. Turned out to be a vacuum hose that had collapsed.

Garage is having a "special" day on Thursday for Hyundai's. Have offered me a trade in against a new ix35 for 55% of its original value - not bad for a 4 year old car. They also sell the Mitsubishi asx in the same garage, so am having a test drive of both tomorrow. Having had a look at the detailed specs, both cars are very similar both in price and in extras.

Major differences:
lower towing weights on the Mitsu - 1400kg is realistic, would not dream of trying to tow 2000kg with the ix35.

The ix35 will not drive above 25mph in 4 wheel drive, even with the 4WD lock on, whereas the asx will. The latter would be very useful in poor road conditions such as icy roads.

IX35 has a full size alloy spare, asx has no spare at all. If the ix35 is like the Tucson, if you regularly rotate tyres including the spare, you should get 50,000 miles out of them.

Garage has been getting 55-60mpg out of the asx car they have been running. One review stated they easily got 55mpg out of it. Not bad for a 4x4.

ix35 did not fare all that well on a What Car tow test in this Aug mag.

Tried to see a Sportage. None available in showrooms yet.

Incidentally, for the top spec car in both makes, delivery is looking at November, though if I order now I will get quoted trade in, and avoid any price hikes.

Had a road test of both the Hyundai ix35 and the Mitsubishi asx today. Went to a Mitsubishi garage and gave the asx a decent long run of around 20 miles. The asx was a pleasure to drive and handled well. The car had just 70 miles on the clock. The drive was mixed town, single track winding country lanes and a decent stretch of dual carriageway at 70mph. The car returned a staggering 68mpg!

Then went to a different Mitsu/Hyundai garage and test drive both cars. Really disappointed in the ix35. The clutch pedal was very high off the floor and the steering was wooden. The telling point was we managed 35mpg in the ix35, but 50mpg doing the same 2 mile route with both engines from cold. The asx had just 7 miles on the clock. Both garages claimed that they could get 80mpg if they really drove the asx carefully. I think I believe them.

No contest! In the end the garage gave us 58% trade in value on our 4 year old Tucson.

Prices on the asx are going up after the weekend. Our model was going up by £1200. Cost of the detachable towbar with a 13pin twin electrics was £340, which is pretty good.

Each to their own I say, congratulations to Mitsubishi if they have produced a 4x4 SUV that does 80mpg no point in buying a hybrid or Polo bluemotion now !

As to the driving experience of the Ix35 I cant disagree more.I find the handling fluid and comfortable,I traded in a VW Touran 2.0Tdi sport I had owned for 5 years from new and the driving experience is very similar, unless you are really chucking savagely into bends (bit daft in an SUV anyway !) The steering is light, but again, what difference does that make to the average SUV driver.

The 4 x 4 system is the same as the More expensive Santa Fe it is an "On Demand" system which means for economy it runs on normal roads in 2wd UNTIL it detects slippage where it very quickly kicks in 4wd.I tried it out by facing the car up a steep wet grass slope and stomping on the throttle from a standstill ! the car took off like a rocket up the slope whithout ANY slippage !

Freeatlast has got the wrong end of the stick, the 4 x 4 works at ANY speed ,you are only limited to 25mph when the 4x4 lock is on,presumably because the lock also limits the diff which could be dangerous at speed ?

The hill descent and the hill start systems work well too !

Im getting 30 mpg driving to work through the City of Sheffield and driving to the coast to our caravan in Whitby at motorway speeds returns 45mpg.down on Hyundai,s claims but good for a 1700kg SUV.

Im not brand loyal in fact I tend to switch make of car each time I buy a new car ! but this car from Hyundai is very good-but hey,who knows I may get bored and buy a new Mitsu ASX next time ! !

Has anybody got a 2.0l diesel ix35 yet? I test drove a 1.7l, which I thought was very nice, but want the 2.0 auto.
Dealer unable to give me a lead time. Would not commit to any delivery in 2011!

I have a 4wd 2.0l premium ix35 in black. I was lucky to get it as my dealer said the one I ordered 2wd 2l premium in silver could be many months away from delivery.(I had already waited 4 months) Have only towed a few times so far but am very happy with the performance, it's a great car, I tow Pegasus 534 last time out got around 29 mpg.
