We are thinking of changing our car in the next few months.
Have been trying to get an accurate kerb weight for a 2008 Ford Mondeo Titanium 2.2tdi Estate, however it is proving hard to find! Can find references to a range of weights on the web, the dealer has been useless - we seem to know more about it than him, he just keeps quoting the max permissible towing weight.
Does anyone actually have a new style Mondeo estate and if so do you know what your actual kerb weight is please?
I would be very grateful for your help as we need to make sure it can tow our van safely.
According to the brochure I have from when we got our 57 plate estate the 2.2 titanium estate is 1574 kg. Not sure what the actual kerbweight is though.
The latest Mondeo's are here:http://www2.fordconnection.com/fordconnection/multimedia/gbr_en/00q/yyb/gbr_en00qyybmodelspc.htm
1615kg kerbweight is on the specification ....i believe you would be towing at 100% i'm afraid ..unless you have a lot of towing experience i'd strongly advise you to pick a heavier car ..

Where on earth do you get that data from, the only MTPLM I can find for a Bailey Pageant Loire is 1313kg so with a Mondeo with a kerbweight of 1629kg this would give a ratio of 80.6%.
------------- Bill
For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

I think maybe www.whattowcar.com was used, I got similar results and when I put the outfit in, I must admit I was surprised.

Your wrong Bill the newer Pageant Loire series 7 are twin axle van with a MPTLM of 1642kg
My apologies, not knowing the pageant series well I simply looed for a listing and on the site the oly Loire was a much smaller van. However, if the Op has the smaller model his Mondeo will tow it superbly.

this is what i got back on ...http://www.whattowcar.com
100% i was suprised too
The towing capability for the Ford Mondeo III Wagon - 2.2 TDCi with a Bailey Pageant Loire:
Performance on levelled roads Top speed Usability 6th gear Acceleration and take over
Performance in mountainous regions Drive off uphill Driving on motorway slopes Driving on steep roads
Ford Mondeo III Wagon - 2.2 TDCi (128 kW/172 bhp) Date of manufacture: april 2008 - may 2010
100%
1612 kg 1615 kg
The caravan is a somewhat heavy for this car in accordance with a mix of European standards. However, according to the British Towing Code the percentage (loaded caravan / kerbweight tow car) is 100%.
The towing performances of this Ford with your Bailey are perfect (performance index = 108 km/h or 67 mph).
You may expect excellent performances from this outfit. On flat roads it's easy to come along, in which case top gear is applicable in most cases.
On motorway inclines you will be able not only to come along, but be the first at the top. On steep roads you have more than sufficient power to keep going. On hill starts there will be more than enough power to get going, provided the wheels have traction.
Thanks for all the replies. We do indeed have a Series 6 Loire which is a twin axle. Very different beast to the previous Loire models!
The reason I asked if anyone knew for sure what the actual kerb weight was is because in my experience the quoted kerb weights given by manufacturers aren't always very accurate.
We used to have a Galaxy Ghia, when we got our fist van I took both the car and caravan to a weighbridge to check their weights, the car actually weighed in at over 150kgs heavier than the kerb weight quoted in the Ford hand book. When I questioned it with Ford I was told that the weights used in the hand book were taken during the development of the cars and the final cars are often quite different from the range of weights quoted, I was told the actual cars often are heavier, especially the models higher up the range with more extras added.
I did suggest to hubby that we could take a car for a test drive and go to a weighbridge to check it's actual weight!
