One of the many reason's why I chose Honda over Nissan and Hyundai because they have a good residual value second hand .
You would be better just keeping the Hyundai and running it in to the ground

------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
The normal trade in offer is about auction price. Dealers don't really want older 4x4s. Its just the price you pay if you want a new car. If its only done 40k miles, keep it for another 5yrs until its worth nowt.
Bigger cars with less badge/snob appeal will depreciate like a lead ballon, hence a lot of company lease cars are usually Audi/BMW et al. Whilst they may cost more initially, they depreciate less so the lease costs are less than for eg a Mondeo. My Galaxy, new cost for a 130TDi Ghia then was over £24K, to me 5 years later less than £7K. Thats a hell of a hit, but a lot of car for the money on the used market. I have had three new cars over a period of ten years, but now I dont think I would buy new again, not in todays 'throw away' society.
nor us, definitely would not buy new again, our sharan was 23k brand new, we got it at 7 years old for 5.5k, our other car (daihatsu sirion) was 8k brand new, I bought it at 12 months old for 5k, with 15000 miles on it, It is virtually like brand new
------------- Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
I bet you could have got it serviced at an indi for around £200, remember you dont have to get your service done at a dealers, only a VAT reg garage to keep the warranty in place
Again, I wouldn't buy new any more. You can get great second hand bargains now.
Also, I wouldn't use an independent garage. That cost me money once, so never again. Vehicles are so complicated these days, I think you need the main dealer's expertise and equimpent. I used to do all my own servicing, but not any more.
Independent garages just don't understand the complexities. OK back in the days of Austin Cambridges. I wouldn't mind going back to that, in many ways.
Going off track a bit - but don't underestimate independent workshops. They usually employ mechanics, whereas the franchised dealers usually only use 'technicians'. When I've had problems - albeit very few - it's our local independent who has outperformed the main dealer.
Yes modern cars use a lot of technology - but there is a lot of similarity between the systems used on different marques. Much of the time they use the same electronics manufactured by outsourced suppliers.
Back on track, the amount you lose on buying new is horrendous - perhaps why Vauxhall are introducing a lifetime warranty (limited to 100,000 miles for the first owner only) - because it's the only way people will buy new as opposed to used.
as a qualified motor engineer and auto electrician many moons ago.i lift my bonnet and scratch my head now on electronics.when i go in they plug in a computer and are told of the fault and where to look.pull out a board and fit another and away you go.a long way from new points and feeler gauges and knocking rockers.lol.not calling motor engineers.the £50 per hour service cost is what i got per week in the old days.

Grad Sailor, I understand completely what you are saying, and I agree. However, there really isn't much place for a mechanic now. Times have moved on, sadly in my opinion, and parts aren't repaired any more. You plug the computer in and replace what's faulty.
Again, back on track, for many years I have owned new cars. Now I won't ever have a new one again. What you lose as you drive out of the showroom is just silly now, especially with the larger 4 x 4s I use.
It's a point I have made before. There are so many excellent large towcars on the market for very little money, you will save so much that the fuel consumption doesn't matter. It's already paid for.
would never go to hyundia garage for service, got quoted nearly a grand for 60 k major service on my sf 2.0 dieso that was with new cam belt, got it done at half price at local garage and excellent service
------------- If its not broke, dont fix it, and stop nagging
