Hello Richosimon
Yep we had two 2.2 Diesel Nissan X Trails before, a great car, one with 4x4 drive the other was two wheel drive. Both the X Trails make excellant tow cars BUT they can get thirsty.
We retired last Christmas and wanted 'something more economical' and decided to test drive AND tow with a 2.0 diesel QQ as we wanted to stay with Nissan, BUT we were not impressed with it towing ( I was changing gear like a yo yo as it seemed to struggle !) OR its fuel consumption.Tested a few other makes and finally bought an Toyota Avensis Tourer 2.0 Diesel TR.
The Avensis tows both our caravans no problem, The Avensis is a heavy car and has a curb weight of 1.520 kg and a towing weight 1.600kg, Our Bailey GT60 620-4 mtplm is 1.326kg and our Pageant Burgundy is 1.400kg.
We get at present 45/50mpg normal, and 32/35mpg towing, we have been told this will improve after the Avensis 20.00 mile service, but we do not know why, but we will see, meanwhile we are very satisfied with the Avensis.
Hope this is of some help.
Mike
