hi, i have a 2004 lunar lexon eb and kia sedona 2009 ,

i have to unplug the 12s socket to enable lights to work whilst hitched up, i understand that when the ignition is on they shouldnt work but should i have to unplug even when ignition is off to enable caravan to work off the caravan battery,

i have tried with switch in all positions but to no avail also when car is running, battery light on the fridge does not come on so do not know if that is even working all fuses are fine have rewired a new 12s socket ,the only thing i think it could posibly be is the 5 pin relay in the van ,

i have checked battery and it was not charging but it is not a sealed battery,it needed topping up and am waiting to see if that has done the trick regarding the charging.

the battery not being charged should not stop the van working off the car battery should it ?

any help please.

the fridge does not have a light inside, so dont know.

when you stop at night and need to go in the van , it is a pain to have to unplug socket inorder for the caravan lights to work.

i under stand about live wires but for instance if there was no live feed from car to 12s socket surely after switching the control panel to van battery i shouldnt need to unplug 12s socket inorder for lights to work? or do i

When you connect the car to the caravan its disables all 12v with exception of the 12v to the battery and to the fridge.

If this is not happening, I suspect there is a failed relay within the van.

The reason, none of the lights work is due to safety, and to discourage people from travelling in the fan which is illegal.

ok , i dont want the lights to come on while the engine is running, just when i stop at say services and it is pitch black, i dont see everyother caravan having to unplug a socket to enable lights whilst stopped, would a failed relay cause this. and are we talking about the 5 pin relay that the fridge and lights go to after the fuses.

sorry if the title is misleading i dont wants lights on whilst driving just couldn`t understand why i have to unplug to use van battery

When the ignition is off, I would expect them to come on.

As there should be no power going to the caravan from the car then as all relays should be de-energised.

Probably a faulty split charging relay on the car, not releasing when the engine is turned off.

right have figured out what is going on (or what i think is going on lol),

i put a circuit tester on pin 4 and pin 6 i think ,fridge one anyway all was as it should be permanant live on one but also live all the time on fridge engine running or not.

now i know the fridge shouldnt be live when engine not running but anyway at least there is power , went to plug in caravan after changing fridge switch and nothing , circuit tested right at first fuses and nothing so backed up to towbar and again nothing but this time on 12 n socket too .

looked at where they wired it checked fuses in car etc nothing blown, checked every electrical item on car and found 12v accessory socket in boot not working.

looked again at wiring and found that they have wired main power to both towbar sockets from basically a 12v cigarette lighter to power the caravan. i thought the main wire should always come from a fused wire straight from the battery into a switching relay (which is fitted by the way)

any thoughts am i correct in thinking this is the problem ,i have to phone dealership up now tommorow and get them to get the people who fitted it out to me as its still under 12 months since they installed it
