Hi Everyone I need to change a tyre as I had a puncture this holiday and I have heard the stories about Matador tyres which are fitted to my van. The puncture caused slight damage to the wheel arch and have just checked the other side and this tyre has also been rubbing, not a lot so I suspect its when the suspension bounces over uneven roads. However the tyre size is 175R14C so this is a commecial tyres (6/8ply) but it also says 175/75 R 14 99/98 R, I think this means 175 mm tyre width, 75, tyre height as a percentage of the width of tread, R radial ,14 inch wheels, 99 loading (775 kilos) and R speed rating (106mph?). The bit that worries me is the aspect ratio (75%) as the tyre has been rubbing whereas my service handbook says the tyre should be 175/65 R14 this would be a smaller tyre and so give more clearance but is this ok or have I got this completely wrong? I have to confess that untill this happened I just checked the tread and pressure each time we used the van but not if it was even the correct tyre. Any recommendations for replacement tyres and costs in the Derby area gratefully received.
