I think I have narrowed my choice of new to me tow car to the estate version of one of these 2 models.

Has anyone got any views good or bad on either?

The 407s seemed very reasonable over the auction this morning.

Thanks for your input guys. I have checked "parkers" reviews and the Mazda does come out better than the Peugeot in most respects but the Peugeot still fairs very well for reliability. I don't really understand why the 407s were going through the auction so inexpensive. And the only Mazda 6 wasn't dear.

I am torn between Japan & France. I think I will keep an open mind and see what good deal comes along on either.

I have a 407SW 2.0 HDI. As a tow car for my folding camper it is excellent. As a daily use car the fuel consumption is pretty good 45-47 (non towing), the engine is excellent, there have been minor annoying electrical issues (sensors generally) and crazy tyre pressure valves that fall appart (took them all off and deprogrammed system...Peugot did this at my request). All in its has never really cost me that much to sort (84000 miles) so I would recommend them and might have one again. Its a good car to drive with plenty of power and comfy ride

They are about with low miles - I have seen a few. I must admit that I have been very pleased with previous 405,406,306. I have also been impressed with reliability & build quality on my Mazda mx5. What a dilema!

Had a couple of Mazda's the later one being a Mazda 6 and I cant speak highly enough of them. The 6 we had was a 2ltr petrol and solo it handled like a dream, very nimble for a family car. Both cars we had were totally reliable, only ever changed a headlight bulb and that was on the older 626 (apart of the usual brake pads). You need to look at the weights of the Mazda 6 as they are quite light for a family car a deisel estate would be the best choice in my opinion.

I drive a 2009 Mazda 6 estate 2.2 diesel. It tows our Ranger well, we went to France this year and it was great over 2000 miles. It is a good family car too and scarily quick solo.

With regards to weight I went on a weigh bridge on our way to France and the caravan was 1350kg and the car 1980 kg (both fully laden).

 I thought it was execellent value and would definately look at another when the time comes. My only gripe is that fuel consumption is lower than expected at 42 solo and 28 towing. Perhaps that's my fault using all that power!
