Hi can anyone help am i right in saying that the black protective covering on a new Alko towball as to be removed before you should use it Thanks

Yes, a rub with steel wool or fine sandpaper will do the trick.

Could have been, but make sure you fully remove and clean the towball before towing, otherwise the black protective paint will rub off and assuming you have an Alko stabiliser hitch, will contaminate the friction pads.
