hi guys,

We have a Vauxhall vectra estate and the alarm keeps going off randomly and for no obvious reason.Mind you - thinking about it - it didn't happen before we had the towbar fitted!!!!!

We've looked at maybe a spider or something moving around inside - but can't find anything,and we make sure the windows, doors and boot are shut properly etc etc

It's driving us mad -you even go to bed at night wondering if it will go off and wake up the whole street has anyone got any ideas what may be causing it? or has anyone with the same car had any problems?

Any ideas would be gratefully recieved.

Was the towbar fitted at the Vauxhall dealer?

Hi, we had a similar problem with our Zafira when it was approx 6/7 years old.  The rechargeable batteries inside the siren were failing.  The batteries are not replaceable, the only way to fix it is to fit a new siren unit or disconnect it.  My husband is a car mechanic by trade and has now fixed this problem on several Vauxhalls, all of which have been around this age.  It just maybe worth checking this out.  Doubtful when fitting the tow bar that they would have touched any wiring to do with the alarm unless they did not know what they were doing.

I agree with the above, I've done quite a few of these. The best thing is simply to unplug the siren. The alarm will still work as it uses the horn, the siren is a secondary system which goes off if someone disconnects the battery. As said, when they get about 6 years old the internal batteries begin to fail and the sensor sees that as the main car battery having been disconnected - so it goes off randomly.

They are usually under the o/s front wing behind the wheel arch cover.
