Well, what a day! Went up to the caravan today, nice sunny afternoon, we wanted to put up the awning on the storage field as we have only been caravaning once and didn't try the awning.

1st up - mice droppings!!!  Mothballs, stainless steel scourer and battery sonic device ordered!

2nd - Awning took hours, but think we have got there..

3rd - when I reversed the caravan back and went to unhitch from the tow ball I just couldn 't lift the hitch handle vertical enough to release. I tried every position for the jockey wheel but the car was lifting aswell as the van. Eventually I had to get the farmer to lift my vehicle with two wheel jacks, once the pressure was off the handle went directly vertical, lowered the car and low and behold the ball and hitch seperated!!

What am I doing wrong?? What are the stages for releasing? do you reverse, hand brake on, hitch handle release then jockey wheel up and steadies down??

really frustrated, worried about next trip and not being able to unlock!

After reversing I always pull forward a couple of inches as its always very difficult to unhitch with the draw bar compressed.

Give it a try next time.

Nice one, thanks, I seem to sruggle getting the handle horizontal even to hitch on, i mustn't have the technique right! I also think I may have raised the jockey wheel before raising the hitch handle... need some practice, time to take the removable tow bar up to the caravan and keep putting it on and off, that way I won't hold my car kidnap when I can't get it off :-(

When my wife first bought her horse trailer, we were there for ages trying to unhitch.  In desperation we read the instructions and found out there was a button to press before raising the handle. We hadn't seen it in the dark.
