I had a greatly reduced priced towbar from Towsure when I had a new model X Trail as they used my car to test fit their prototype etc

There may be scope there for exploration but its poor if a new car towbar set up isn't available from the manufacturer and well worth heeding your warning

I had previously posted a request for information about fitting a towbar to an S-max Titanium X sport and as you say, no-one had any personal experience. At the time we couldn't find any info on the various towbar websites for that model, but we then got the registration number for the car we were interested in and when we put that reg number into the Witter towbar finder it does bring up that the car is an X Sport version and lists the various tow bar options. the car is being bought through a ford employee used car scheme so the price is very attractive.  My brother in law then spoke to a tow-bar fitter up around Dagenham (Ford land!) and they did have experience of fitting one - they said it is a cut barely visible unless you look under the car. Any ay, we are going for it and should have the car sometime by the end of Jan. already spoken to a Witter fitter in Cardiff who is close to a Ford dealer in case of problems and will (try) and get the towbar fitted in Feb.

Will update the forum once done (or failed  - expensive if it can't be done!)
