hi all, following the purchase of our new to us motor, I am now in need of a B+E licence.

couple of things from this:

can anyone reccommend a company round the Leeds, West Yorks area? theres a few come up with google, but just wondered if there were any others.

second, more to the admin, would it be possible to put these, and any others round the country into the company directory on here? I did look but didn't find anything.

]

prices dont seem to bad, looks to me around £4-500, you seem to get an hour "assesment" drive, then they recommend from that the appropriate course for you, Im guessing I would probably be a 3 day course, there are 2 day ones too, up to 14 days if you have never towed before. (most seem to have 2,3,5 days, some also offer 10 and 14.

Be very careful of people ripping you off, I did it last year as my OH couln't drive for a few weeks due to having a C section,
I went through a company who specialises in training lorries but they had a pickup and trailer for B and E, all i had to do was go for a 10 minute assessment in their yard to check I could reverse in their yard and they put me for my test, I had 2.5 hours before the test on the day on my way to the test centre (test at 10:30 got thier for 8) and that was it, passed first time,
My OH did it 4 years ago (with a different company) and got ripped off, she had to do 3 days at £700 even though she is a qualified coach and bus driver but she duly paid attention to the 3 days advised, obviously flew through the test however I am fairly certain she would have been able to do it with just the 2.5 hours I had,
Good luck, just get used to driving without crossing your hands on the wheel again (that was the hardest part for me)

Since passing my test I took the caravan to gateshead as that was what I took my test for and haven't towed since, Gave the towing mirrors back to OH where they belong!! but at least I can now if ever needed I suppose

I did a caravan towing and manoeuvring course last September run by the CC and one of the instuctors mentioned that you could do a B + E 'course' and test through them. I've just checked their website and it isn't giving any info or details though - may be worth a phone call?

I take it you must have passed your driving test after Jan 1997 if so you will only need B+E entitlement if your combined weight is over 3500 kilograms. If it is under this and theladen weight of van isn't heavier than the car then your standard B licence will be ok.

If you need training then have a look under driving schools in yellow pages, there aren't many who do it but there are some.

This site will give you some help. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/CaravansTrailersCommercialVehicles/DG_4022521

Just looked at your outfit details.

I will be suprised if the combined weight of the Peugot and Swift will exceed 3500 kilo

Why not do the course anyway, then if the old bill question it, you can stick your license in their face! Thats why I intend doing it (again) failed first time but rearranged as I don't want to be uninsured with a heavy trailer. One copper will say one thing, another different.

Best to be ok.

I will be doing the course, I need it, car gross of around 3200KGs, van 1300KGs, putting my closer to 4.5T max laden.

Al- less of the deisel drinking....currently getting approx 34mpg round town, about the same as I was getting form my 406 (admittedly, thought it would be less than this, now wondering if there was somthing wrong with my 406...)
