A buddy of mine is just about to get his done, I think he has just over 100,000 on the clock, but he seems happy to keep the car, as in his opinion, it's the best tow car he has ever owned.  I think his description was "awsom".  I've driven was as a company vehicle, but not towed, and loved it.

The new Mondeo apparantly is signed off to tow 2t, is this correct?

We have a 2.0L TDCI and done 55k on a 56 plate and DMF and clutch have just had to be replaced and we don't tow with it - so really it is just down to luck and a fair wind. The chap at the garage thinks ours went early because due to the problems we had in the snow etc. but who knows. It's quite pokey really for an estate so I reckon it's be a pretty good tow car. We'll find out when we stop pitching seasonally

I'm very interested in this thread, I've just bought a 54 plate 2.0Tdci Zetec Estate, it has 126000 on it & I can't believe how well it goes. I'm tempted to put a towbar on it & pull the van with it instead of the Renault. It does 55mpg just pottering around so should top 50mpg on a long trip.

Does anyone know the max load for the roof rails? I'd like to carry two Kayaks down to Cornwall if possible & I think I just need to get two cross bars as long as the rails can carry the weight. I don't think they'd weigh more that 50kg put together.

The only thing I was shocked about when I picked this car up was the state of the aluminium wheels but I've since been told the Mondeo had a bad time for wheels & it seems I've got one of them.

Roof loading is 75kg max and that includes the weight of the bars or rack etc..

Hi All

A update for you and thank you for all the advice please keep them coming so others can learn from this

I got the mondeo last week from the garage all seems to be OK but 1 or 2 small problems that I got fixed before

I picked it up.

1: The power steering pump had a leek – got it replaced.

2: One of the back wheel bearings had gone.

3: The garage said they had serviced it, when they hadn’t.

Now that I have driven it for a week or so there is a slight whistle from the turbo when you get to 2000 revs.

A slight rumble when accelerating but not all the time I think it could be from the exhaust (HOPE) just started doing it yesterday so need to keep a eye on that,The clutch seems to be OK so far.

I will run the car for another month before I get a new towbar fitted

I’m Looking forward to towing with the mondeo as I have been towing with a 1.8 focus for the last 3 years.

Hi,

My turbo sounded like a police car siren just before it failed..a faint "nee naw" under acceleration.

I have a Mondeo 2.0Ltr TDCI 115Bhp. Its on a 55 plate and pull a 1450Kg van with it. Its a fantastic towcar and great solo. Its really good on diesel as well. Only issue I have had was a nice £940.00 bill for new injectors around 37,000 miles. That was 12 months ago and have had no issues since. My next car will probably be another Mondeo or I fancy a Discovery but I am not going to open that can of worms

Rear wheel bearings a doddle to change. 10mins a side. ours has always whistled. Just drive it. Brother in laws had a rumble that turned out to be just an exhaust hanger. Our van is 1500kg, but heaviest we've towed at was about 1450, Towed great. Very very capable car.

joecroft2/Jubbly

Not everyone has the mony to buy a nearly new car.

Some people have to live within there means, so a little help and advice from kind people on this site will go a long way, is that not what this site is all about?
