Good Evening people, can anyone help. We have a removable towbar on our Ford Mondeo and have just fitted it ready to collect our first caravan and the electrics from caravan dont fit to our towbar and the car fitment seems smaller. Any ideas, do we need new electrics or a convertor?

thanks

Sounds as if your car has a black "N" 7-pin socket and the caravan has a newer 13-pin plug.

If that's the case, in order to use the caravan fridge (while travelling), its reversing lights, and charge its battery, you'd need to either have a second "S" socket fitted and use an adapter lead like this, or, preferrably, fit a 13-pin socket on the car.

You need full electrics on your car to run fridge & charge caravan battery while towing. If your fitter has just fitted a single 7pin, you were badly advised, he should have asked you what you were towing.

The adaptor as above will allow you to get your caravan home. Then you need to go back to your fitter & get them to fit a fully wired 13pin socket.

If your caravan has the al-ko trailor assist (ATC) it needs the power from car to run it (as well as the other parts listed above) so you will either need a 13 pin socket or have a 12S socket fitted and get an adaptor.
