Hi,

We are having a tow ball fitted to our Discovery 3 next week.  I was offered the detachable or the fixed.  I have opted for the fixed (with the al-ko thingy) purely as I have an unreasonable concern that the detachable is just that – detachable!

Speaking to the company representative who is doing the fitting (Towbar Express) she was unable to confirm whether a fixed setup (it is the witter solution) would impact the rear parking sensors which are on the car.  Does anybody have any knowledge of this or have the same setup on their car and confirm either way for me?

Many Thanks,

Ian

Hi Ian

I have a Discovery 3 with the removable tow ball and that does not affect the sensors.

Can only assume that the fixed one will be about the same profile so it should be OK.  If not you could always turn them off!!

Incidentally, why are you going for a fixed one when the receiver and electrics for the removable one are probably already there. Have a look behind the removable plate in the bumper.

Thanks Davenport

I have the fitting hole for the removable but not the electrics so they would need to be installed regardless.

In terms of reason - I am ashamed to say it is nothing more than what I said above - I just feel more comfortable with it being fixed, bolted etc than detachable. Completely irrational but we all have our little quirks!

Thx
Ian

hi there

just remember , if you fit ,fixed towbar  and it affects reversing ,sensors then you can say goodbye to them? i have just had witter detachable fitted ,and there is no way it,s falling off,,reversing sensors are not affected   but i see where you are coming from , i  was unsure but am now completely confident all is ok ,i think you should go for detachable ,,but that,s only my opinion , hope all goes ok for you ,whatever you decide
