Its over 20 years since I had a Scott stabiliser but from what I can remember you place the plate for the stabiliser behind the towing ball and with long bolts you use the same position as you had without the stabiliser. I think the upper and lower holes are to adjust the hight the keep the swivel bracket of the stabiliser at the same hight as the slider bracket on the caravan. In days gone by the chassis used to be hunking great girders and it was normal to drill them for stabilisers (- don't even think about it now!) and therefore the hight might need tweeking.

While the stabliser bracket may look like a drop plate it is not.
Under no circumstances should it be used as such and only one set of holes should be used at any one time.

Fit it with the towball and towbar bolts through the bottom set of holes, tighten them up and then put the stabiliser onto the van in the normal way.

If, once you tension the stabiliser the spring feels slack on the caravan a-frame bracket, then remove the whole lot and reposition the bracket, bolting it by the top 2 holes. This will put more downward tension on the stabiliser spring.

Having used both Alko and Spring Stabilisers, I much prefer the Spring Type as these exert more nose weight on the hitch without adding any actual weight to the van.

Hi

Lobeydosser is right about only using one set of holes - my trusty Scott is still on the car.

It is also ESSENTIAL that you only use H T Steel Bolts for this job, due to the length and the stresses they carry, together with shakeproof washers or nyloc nuts.

The shorter, 'normal' bolts supplied with the towball are NOT High Tensile!

And it's still the best stabiliser ever made IMHO.
