Its handy on a rally, if the battery gets low, you can just pop it on & run the engine for a bit. Think my local fitter wanted £50 to add one. I did it myself with a towsure kit. Was a doddle to fit. Hardest part was running two cables from the engine bay, having to thread through the bulkhead & behind trim panels. Ditto the not really needing it. Couple of frozen pop bottles will keep fridge as cold as it will get on 12v.
It has to have a split-charge relay, so the charging feed is cut otherwise starting the car would draw off the caravan battery.
