i am after advice when towing please. i currently have a piccasso 2.0hdi and tow a elddis typhoon 200ex......altho i do tow with it, and i do like the car, what i am asking is if its safe/reccomened to do so? i dont really want to change car or van as money is tight! thanks
You need to know the weight of your tow vehicle and the weight of your caravan. Caravan should ideally not be more than 85% of the weight of your tow vehicle.
Also, you should balance your caravan so that its 'noseweight' is between 4% and 7% of its total weight. Then check that the 'maximum drawbar loading' figure published by the tow vehicle manufacturer is within your caravans 'noseweight' range.
Also the permitted 'gross train weight' published by the manufacturer of your tow vehicle needs to be checked. This is the weight of your tow vehicle + your caravan; it should not exceed the published figure.
If you have those things right, it should be safe.
all sorted now thanks, had a look nito it and it appears the caravan is 1200mgw, and aprox 1047 unladen, doing the sums the picasso can tow upto 1300kgs, so ive worked the rule out to be 87.27%, so all safe and the nose wieght to be approx 84kgs if i remember rightly, dont no the towbars reccomnede weight ho, il av to look into that, its a swan neck if any body knows????
