we are thinking of getting a 9 seater minibus thing either merc or vauxhall as a business car but this would mean chucking in my pathfinder so looking for advice please and peoples reaction when you turn up on site
Hi kpedd, Have fond some sites dont allow commercial type vehicles if they carry any type of add of a company, but if your mini bus is for private use, should be no problem. there should be others along shortly, that may have some experience with this type of vehicle, and can help you further.
------------- If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.
A mini bus type of vehicle seems to be the the preferred towing vehicle for a great many people on the continent.
Seems to be a popular choice for the Dutch and Germans.
Sites abroad do not appear to be too bothered about sign written vans.
Just check the power, weight and tow weight matches, though I doubt that would be problematic, unless you overload the bus.
We use a VW Transporter SWB. Have found that most sites are fine about this - We,ve only been turned down once when phoning around - I always let them know what we tow with beforehand and give them the chance to say no. Its great for towing and all the heavy stuff goes in the back.
I would not have the name on the side as i am a childminder and dont really need to advertise but we are moving a bit further away from the school so it will be a bit too far to walk for the kids so it is an option we are looking into but i dont want to have a rubbish tow car either
We have recently purchased a Hyundai i800 8 seater (says car on the registration document). had the towbar fitted and looking forward to the season with our Pennine in tow. I hope that there aren't any hidden issues too, but folks have been touring and towing for years with VW Caravelles and the like so I don't envisage any problems for us. It is nice to have 8 seats AND luggage space for a change.
We tow currently with a Mercedes vito dualiner 8 seater.
It is black, we don't get any comments or looks. I did ask one campsite whos policy was no commercial vehicles as the vito is classed as one, but they said it was fine. I think I was just being a bit twitchy. I think those sites that do not want commerical vehicles are meaning the 'tranist' (even though we have one of those too) or a transit tipper, sign written etc. More and more families are begining to use these bigger 'People carriers' that do truly sit 8/9 not 7 seaters were 2 of the seats are flip downs in the boot. I think you'll be fine.
we have just purchased a caravan and intend to tow with my hubbies transit as my skoda is too uncomfortable for him to drive as he has arthritis in his knees. have noticed that some local sites in N Ireland have rules concerning transits so phoned to check the situation. have been told no problem towing van to pitch and setting up but they ask that the transit is parked in the carpark not beside your pitch. hubbies transit is plain white no sign writing and looks ikn good condition so i hope we wont have too many problems when we do get on the road
We tow with a VW Transporter sometimes (Discovery the rest of the time!) - it is wheelchair adapted but has 8 seats as well. Never had any problems on site - but that may be because its classed as a disabled car!
Only problem we have is it is hopeless at reversing with a caravan on!! Burns the clutch even on a flat bit of land.
