This lead, if connected, alters the range of the sensors, so it does not pick up the towball. I suspect it will still go off when the caravan is connected, though I cannot remember noticing it. Minor detail anyway, as you can switch them off in the car. It is mentioned in the car handbook, at least it is in mine.
