I'm with Jim on this one.  It is unlikely to be the stabiliser and more to do with weight.

Perhaps the clue is that your front wheels spun when reversing.  That sounds as though the front wheels are being lifted off the ground by too much nose weight.  Borrow the wardens bathroom scales !!

Hi, just wanted to let everyone know we got home safe and sound, journey home was much better than going, we checked the nose weight and put that to 75kg, we put the awning poles and the heavier bags in the middle of the car between the front and rear seats.  My partner said the van still felt a bit 'snaky' if he got upto about 55mph other than that it was fine.  Think thats probably more because the kia we had before was much bigger, had a higher kerb weight and nose weight and had a lot more power, so maybe its a case of getting used to the feeling of towing with the passat rather than there being a problem.  It did move more on the road between frodsham and chester and was exactly the feeling we had going down the other way so part of the problem was definately the road surface.  Anyway just wanted to say thanks again, my holiday would have been ruined with worrying about getting home in one piece, the responses from the forum members gave us food for thought and a much safer tow home... thanks.

Been having a problem with my outfit, Swift Challenger and CR-V. Found at between 55-60 mph it was very unstable, fitted shock absorbers on it which helped slightly, anyhow went out last week with more loaded into car and even took the two light chairs from under bed, it made a hell of a difference. The CR-V is soft on the back and with putting the extra weight in back of car held it more stable.
