Hi, Suggest  you try a caravan shop rather than hardware because I suspect they would be some sort of high tensile steel.  Am sure one of the experts/engineers on here will let you know

DaveS1 is quite right. Some of the bolts that harware shops stock are sometimes made from mild steel and what happens is when you tighten the nuts and bolts the thread stretches slightly. Ideal for DIY in the home but you need high tensile steel bolts for this application therefore you need to purchase the required nuts and bolts from either a caravan outlet or a company that stocks fastening equipment to the engineering trade. I have been an engineer for the past 35 years in the tool and fabrication industry.

If you have a vernier caliper which is a precise measuring instrument, you could check the diameter of the two hole sizes in the stabiliser, you would know what size bolts you need then.

If you purchase the nuts and bolts from a caravan outlet they will packaged up but if you go to a fastening stockists you could take the stabiliser with you and get them to try the size you need. They sell them individually so there is no packaging to undo and guaranteed to obtain the correct size.

i have been to all the local caravan dealers and to be honest they were no good at all i could be the fact i didn't buy it new from them but they just said they didn't stock such bolts or nuts!!!! but we have some very good specialist engineering suppliers near to where i live so i think they could give me the right nut and bolt but as i said i only need the diameter of the bolts as i cant get to the caravan very easily

You need a camping/caravan shop with a decent spares department.

I think you will have to go to the van and bring it home, you might get the length right but the diametre may be too slack or to tight. As Tango says someone who suppies tools, bolts to the trade is your best bet.

Don't know where you are in the North East, tis a big place, but if you are anywhere near Hedley's Towbars in Durham, they will certainly be able to help you.

Are they the same as Alko bolts? if so its a standard item from any trailer parts supplier, bolts fit a 19mm spanner. If you are going to replace your existing hitch with this one you might be able to use the existing bolts.
