The lower the % the better. Caravan should weigh 85% of the cars unladen weight or less. The higher you go the more control the caravan gets over the car.

Too heavy a caravan and if it does snake you have no way to recover as the van has full control, Leaving you to sit and watch as the accident looms.

Having a very light van and the car is always in full control. Check your cars log book for the maximum towing weight. Ive seen figures from 1100kg to 1300kg. caravan looks to weigh 1250kg laden? So the 1st figure is not a suitable match even though the car maybe heavy enough. You cannot exceed the cars gross towing weight.

this car is the 110bhp which says its 1300 maximum towing weight,,,  is this a little close to the limit then if the van is 1250 .  Is max towing weight same as gross towing weight or not.

thanks

Yes cars max towing weight should be equal or greater than the caravans max/gross loaded weight.

Is it the multispace? With that you will be running at 88%
with that van and the max towing limit of 91%.

Approx 91% which is the cars legal max tow limit, Even though its below the cars kerbweight.

I would have thought that your intended caravan is too heavy for a Berlingo, whilst you may be able to make good progress on a fairly level road, you may well struggle and be down to 30mph in 2nd gear on a motorway if you come across any steep inclines or headwinds. Yes, it would get you there in the end, but at a quite slow pace and a lot of gear changing work, no fun when you have an exited family eagar to start their holiday, whilst your worn out even before you start to set up your caravan home for the duration.

Yes I tow with mine, 110bhp diesel xtr. Caravan is only about 700kg tho & it hardly notices it. The earlier Berlingo 3s only have a 55kg noseweight limit but it has been upped to 70kg on the later models.

I seem to remember that Berlingos have won their category in the Towcar of the Year Award in some past years, if that counts for anything. Details of past years can be found on the Caravan Club website Here

The latest Caravan Club magazine has a report comparing owners' experiences of Doblos vs Belingos if you would find that interesting. If you're not a member you can see the article on the website Here but be quick because as soon as the next month's magazine comes out it gets archived and then only members can see it.

My Berlingo is 2013 and a multispace 1.6 hdi and it states on the Hand book that the 5 seater are 55kg nose weight.
But all the 7 seaters are 70kg nose weight. this is cars aged from 2008 to 2015 +
