I tow with an 06 plate version and it's excellent. Best tow car I've had.

I currently tow with a MK4 CRV 2.2 diesel and find it returns 26-27 mpg when towing our van at 1500 MPTLM and
44-46 mpg solo
The Honda has a kerbweight of 1690kg , a max tow of 2000kg and nosewight limit of 100kg
I have been down to Spain and Portugal and back and the car performed very well even on the steep motorway gradients .

Actually prefer the MK3 because it looks more like a 4x4 and the running gear is just the same as the later models .
But agree there a cracking tow car with excellent build quality .

I like ours. It's a 09 reg ( what ever mk that is ). Only ever had one problem, the clutch started to slip when we were 250 miles from home with the caravan. The official Honda excuse is that on some of the diesal models, the clutch is wearing uneven. They are even failing on some that don't have towbars fitted so if you are looking at one of the new shape ones, it might be worth asking if the clutch has been changed.  Also, the new ones come with a space saver spare which Honda don't recommend for towing.  Other than that, brilliant towcar !!!

Hi Ian - I've got an '07 Diesel EX, and on a good run, can get the mid 40's. Around town, more like 38, and towing anywhere between 22 and 28, depending on how heavy my right foot is. (C/van is 1500Kgs.)

I get about the same as Eddie12 does and we tow a twin axle 1540kg MTPLM and up to 4 bikes on the roof. Ours was pretty poor on fuel when new but after about 5 or 6000 miles it got a lot better.

The ambulance service I work for uses these as responder cars, and the clutches are not lasting at all (about 25-30000 miles), but then it could be the way they have to be driven :). Also the Honda 2.2 burns oil at a fair rate, have a friend who is a Honda tech and its a problem across the board, and something Honda have had a problem solving.

Are we talking diesel engined or the petrol variant because there nothing about this on the Honda forum ,
I have towed all the way to Portugal and back and thats hard work for any engine considering some of the motorway inclines are far steeper than anything you will encounter in the UK and my CRV diesel NEVER used a drop in 5000 miles

Have just done some research on this so called excessive oil consumption and it's NOT the diesel engined cdti or Dtec models but a small percentage of the earlier V-TEC engine petrol models that were afflicted

Never used a drop of oil in my CR-V ( deisel) either, and not had any problems with clutch.

No problem with oil consumption on mine either, but I had to have a new clutch fitted - under warranty.
