Hi All

Just in the process of buying an Audi A4 TDI 2.5 Auto 03 reg and its covered 61000 miles, full service history, gear box oil changed at 40000 miles as recommended also cam belt changed at 35000 miles.

Does anyone tow with this car?

Is there any other things mechanically or electrical that i should be aware of before i hand over the money?

Is it a good towcar?

Cheers

Mark

Change at 40,000 and 35,000 miles but how long ago was that?

It may have done 40,000 in its 1st 2 years and its not been done for 6 years.

Cars are a bit lighter than some for their size. What are you planning to tow with it? Max towing weight?

Auto not the most reliable, And some electrical gremlins can be a bit costly.

Beware of horrendous Audi repair costs .This is despite that they are assembled from mostly VW and skoda parts.

I run both a VW Touareg and a Golf, both TDI's and I must say that I never have any problems with them. I get all servicing done at an independant VW specialist and the price is comparable with other makes of cars I've had (Land Rover, Nissan etc) My Touareg has an auto box and it is great. As Grampian91 states, depends on what you are going to be towing will determine if its a good towcar.

I've got a 2001 A6 Quattro avant with the same engine but manual box, towing a 1500kg Burstner and it's brilliant, easily the best tow car I've had, not great on fuel but I'm happy to wear that as it so good.

mine's got 140,000 miles on it now with the previous owner spending a small fortune on belts, turbo, clutch and fly wheel, needs a few bit's and bobs for it's mot but as I'll be doing it all myself it's going to be well less than £200 for front suspension, a wheel bearing and a replacement caliper.

I understand the auto box's are best avoided and have a horrific effect on the value of them with it being worth anything upto a grand less than a manual :(

Good call. Been meaning to post for a couple of days but I had an Audi A4 TDi V6 quattro. It was good to drive....... And that was about it!

To put it bluntly it was, by a long shot, easily the most unreliable car I have ever owned, in fact I think it had more faults than all the other cars I have ever owned put together. That includes old bangers when I was an impoverished teenager, a pile of ste Peugeot, a supposedly unreliable, don't touch with a barge-pole Land Rover that never had a single fault.........

Fortunately most of it was put right under warranty.....

It was so expensive to service, the dealer ( stealer? ) would always find ways of spending pots of my dosh...... The cheapest service was £500........

Nightmare! I got rid of it when the warranty ran out........
