Hi

We are looking at getting a new car, next summer we want to buy a newer caravan, currently we have an Abbey Oxford which is pretty old and permanently sited in france. Next summer having spent this summer getting to grips with all things 'caravan' for the first time we want to start touring!

In the next few months we are going to be picking a new car but obviously don't want to get something that won't tow much! currently i have an insignia 2.0 ltr diesel which obviously will tow almost anything, but its a company car that has to go back.

We like the look of the Ford Kuga or Hyundai IX35, but not sure if they can tow much? anybody got experience of these cars or something similar, we like that 'cross-over' type cars, can't really afford to get a 'proper' 4x4. Don't mind getting something like a mondeo if people think that's a better idea, oh, and they will probably be a 2ltr diesel...... so does anybody have anything like these cars, and what sort of caravan do you tow? we would be looking to purchase at least a 4 berth but again, not really fussy what make, again, not sure what caravans are more 'lightweight' then others?

thanks in advance!

Mondeo will be as good/better than the insignia. 2L diesel plenty enough power.

Look for vans with a gross laden weight of around 1300kg or less and you will tow it anywhere with ease.

With experience upto 1500kg, But you maybe getting close to 100% match depending on model and more care will be needed.

Kuga is a bit heavier i think, Only some are 4x4.

Hi,  Ford Mondeo is a great tow car, or you could try an Octavia, if you want 4 wheel drive look at an Octavia scout, great value second hand.

Good luck
