Having ordered my MY2012 Insignia Exclusive Sports Tourer a few weeks ago with the Towing Pack option I am getting conflicting information now about whether the MY2012 towing option still comes with Trailer Stability Program and Auto Self Leveling Suspension.

The May update states that a cheaper option is available without the TSP and ASLS but is unclear whether the full pack is still available and my dealer does not seem to be able to get a definitive answer.

I am hoping someone may have had an MY2012 Insignia with the Towing Pack delivered and can tell me whether it came with the stability goodies . . . or is this yet another Vauxhall cost cutting exercise.

I need to know ASAP as I only have a few days left to remove the Towing Pack from my order.

The "Full" option is still available on the Vauxhall website "Configure your Vauxhall" (at £595 under Option Packs) but customer services insist it isn't on the "Dealers" version.

The new towing option (non TSP and ALS version) is also on the configurator (at £545) but confusingly under "Comfort and Convenience".

I would find it amazing if they have removed this option as the Caravan Club has already rated the Insignia Estate for their "Towcar of the Year" awards (see link below)

http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/practical-advice/thinking-of-buying/award-winning-choices/towcar-of-the-year-awards/tested-towcars/vauxhall/vauxhall-insignia-se-nav-20-cdti/

. . . presumably using a vehicle with the full towing pack.

Without these stability features the car is likely to tow completely differently!

I doubt you will ever notice unless you drive like a nutter or your outfit is poorly loaded or a poor match.

Self levelling suspension you may notice, Depending on how much luggage you carry.

New car should not have any issues as long as you keep within the weight limits. It may look a bit lower but nothing to worry about.

Why would it be any different? Stability systems should never be noticed. They only come into play once some element of control has been lost.

I think this was my original thought!

. . . any safety features are worth having just in case things get hairy and the self leveling suspension should make things less likely to go wrong in the first place.

My main reason for having the factory option (at £595) was for the full towing system and I could have saved a few hundred pound by having an aftermarket towbar fitted once I had the car.

But more to the point why would Vauxhall stop supplying these very important safety features.

. . . believe it or not, the dealers dont seem to know the answer!

They talk to customer services and get different answers each time.

I would tell the suppling dealer,if the car does not come fitted with exactly what you require you will refuse the car, & put it in writting that you specificaly want SLS & TSP & if its not on the car you will not accept it

That would be great if you could get the answer.

Its the MY2012 Vauxhall Insignia 2.0TD Exclusiv 160 Sports Tourer Automatic . . . and the option I have ordered is the £595 Towing Pack.

Just to clarify, the May update mentions the addition of the Retractible Towbar (without the extras) at £545 but it is unclear whether the full Towing Pack is also still available.

Car was ordered first week in June and is scheduled for delivery first week September.

Interesting . . .

the new price guide dated 19th July 2011 still shows the full towing pack with SLS and TSP on page 8 of this PDF!

https://www.vauxhallproductforum.co.uk/articles/2869.pdf

. . . so I would assume it is still going to be available . . . but it would be nice if someone at Vauxhall could tell me for sure!!

Guess I will just have to wait and see what comes on the car when I get it.

Phil
